Job Summary:
Apprentice Stationary Engineers, under the supervision of Journeyman Stationary Engineers, Assistant Chief Engineers, or the Chief Engineer train and qualify to perform standard duties of a Stationary Engineer that includes Central utility plant operation. They operate, inspect and maintain: normal and emergency electrical power distribution systems, automatic transfer switches (ATS), Horizontal and vertical transport systems, heating and air conditioning systems (HVAC), plumbing and sewer systems, life safety equipment/systems, life support equipment/systems. They develop/maintain records and plans for ensuring reliability while reducing risk to patients and staff as well as reducing equipment failures.
Job Requirements:
Education: High School Graduate.
Additional Educational Requirements: Pass Local 39 Apprenticeship test. Apprentice is required to complete Local 39 Stationary Engineer Apprentice Program (4 years). Referral through the Local 39 apprenticeship program is required.
Minimum Experience: Some Mechanical and/or electrical experience preferred.
Knowledge/Skills: Maintain a current driver's license and meet all hospital insurance Policy carriers- requirements. Personal computer skills Word processing software (MSWord/WordPerfect) Spreadsheet/data base software (Excel)preferred English reading, verbal, and written communication skills Ability to interact successfully with management, physicians, Board members and staff Ability to work independently, problem solve, and manage multiple priorities Strong mechanical aptitude.
