Data Manager - Hematology, BMT, and Cell Therapy

Job Summary

The Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant, and Cellular Therapy (HBC) Program Data Manager will play a key role in developing, coordinating, managing, and executing tasks under the purview of the Data Management Supervisor, Quality Nurse Manager, Director of Operations, and HBC Program Medical Director. This will require the capacity to deal with a diverse group of personnel, the ability to multitask and deal with high volumes of work, a sense of data, project management, and problem-solving.

The HBC Data Manager will manage and abstract clinical data. S / he will participate in evaluating, maintaining, and modifying the clinical outcomes database. S / he will generate, and analyze standardized reports on patient treatments, toxicity, and outcomes; respond to requests for information regarding BMT and cellular therapy patients; and collect follow-up information from outside sources. The HBC Data Manager will comply with the institutional, regulatory, and federal regulations.

The HBC Data Manager will also work closely with the Data Management Supervisor, Quality Nurse Manager, and other managers on projects designed to improve effectiveness or efficiency in data accuracy, data management, and efficiency in operations, and assist with the development of benchmarks to better oversee the entire quality aspects of the Department.

The Adult Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program is an expanding program and the successful candidate will use skills as an experienced and seasoned data manager to manage, plan, and administer the data and quality of the Adult HBC Program.

Reporting to the HBC Data Manager Supervisor, the candidate will be an independent, detail-oriented individual, who contributes to quality improvement initiatives and is committed to the values of the program. The candidate will be a highly organized individual who can abstract, trend, and analyze clinical data from the electronic medical record for data submission to the Center of International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) and other outside repositories. The candidate will be able to collect and synthesize data to monitor quality benchmarks, create reports, and audits, and will share these findings at a Quality Management Committee (QMC) meeting. The candidate will utilize these findings to perform short and long-term planning and collaborate in the development of strategies to work towards achieving the set goals and metrics of the HBC quality program.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The annual salary range for this position is $78,900-$167,300 and the target entry point is $105,750 based on experience. The UCSF Hematology / BMT department provides the best care possible for patients with acute and chronic blood conditions. These conditions include but are not limited to, leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative neoplasms, aplastic anemia, immune thrombocytopenia, bleeding disorders, clotting disorders (thrombosis) and anemias. Some diseases are inherited while others are acquired, but all require specialized treatment. In addition, UCSF is a leader in blood and bone marrow transplants as well as cellular therapies, which are used to treat many blood disorders. Therapies have been developed and continue to be developed in solid-tumor diseases as well. Our expert transplant / cellular therapy team is comprised of doctors, nurses, social workers, and additional health professionals who work together to care for individuals and their families throughout the transplant process.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a clinical or biological or healthcare-related field.
• Working knowledge of data management, data abstraction, clinical or laboratory research, data integrity adherence, quality data submission, and adverse event reporting.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, prioritize projects, and meet the demands of a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Must be able to adapt to changing priorities.
• Good critical thinking skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution. Must be able to provide thoughtful analysis.
• Good communication skills; both verbal and written. Must be a clear and concise communicator.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including but not limited to problem-solving, teamwork development, leadership, and mentorship. Works well with others to achieve common goals. Ability to cultivate relationships with multiple stakeholders at various levels of administration.
• Effectively uses medical center’s clinical information and documentation application programs, including but not limited to EPIC (APEX), OnCore, FileMaker Pro, and other data management systems. Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality of protected health information. Compliance and knowledge of HIPAA privacy laws.
