Nursing Supervisor - Assistant Unit Director

• Ensure optimal patient outcomes are met through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s).
• Advocate for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes.
• Take accountability for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care.
• Consult and collaborate with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care.
• Serve as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.

• Supervising staff involved in providing clinical patient care.
• Assisting in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.
• Assisting with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.
• Potentially assuming full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

• Neurovascular/ Neurological: CVAs/strokes, seizure disorders, altered mental status, encephalitis, neuromuscular disorders, TIAs, and intractable migraines.
• Neurosurgical: Craniotomies for tumors, acoustic neuromas, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, deep brain stimulators, trigeminal neuralgia, and seizure disorders. Transsphenoidal surgeries for pituitary tumors, and stereotactic biopsies. VP (ventriculo- peritoneal) shunts and lumbar drain placements; and select EVDs.
• Neuro-Interventional: Cerebral angiograms and embolizations.

• Recent (within the past 3 years) inpatient clinical RN at a Transitional or Critical Care level of care
• Recent administrative oversight in an inpatient setting (within the past year)e.g. previous experience as an Assistant Nurse Mangager, charge nurse or similar role.
• Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.
• In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
• Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance. Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
• Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
• Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
• Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
• Schedule flexibility to provide unit accommodation as well as orient and work at all UCSF locations
• Willingness to flex your schedule to work outside of standard business hours to support night shift staff for example 1400-2200 or 1800-0200 etc.

• Involvement in unit and/or hospital committees
• Clinical Nurse III competency level
• Master's Degree preferred.
• ACLS
• Certification in a specialty (CNRN, SCRN, or PCCN)

• Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
• Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
• NIHSS
