Reporting to the Director, the Manager for Rehabilitation Services is responsible for managing the
operational functions related to therapy service provision in the specific clinical context/care setting,
including patient experience, compliance, quality, safety, staff engagement, budgeting, patient access, and
learning health system goals for Rehabilitation department. The incumbent provides leadership to the full
staff of Occupational and Physical Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Rehab Aides, and
Administrative personnel. The Manager also provides direct supervision for the Clinical Supervisors.
The Manager for Rehabilitation Services evaluates and assures the quality of work performed in all clinical
areas and resolves any issues that negatively impact the delivery of patient care. The incumbent oversees
clinical and support staff development and educational programs; student, resident, and clinical fellow
educational programs, and all performance and quality improvement activities and programs for the
department. Further, the incumbent analyzes system and process barriers and engages in effective
problem-solving techniques to optimize clinical staff and operational performance using A3 Thinking/Lean
Management tools and techniques.
The Rehab Manager can evaluate the level of performance of routine and complex therapeutic intervention
techniques within her or his therapy discipline (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Speech Language Pathology). In both administrative and clinical activities, the Rehab Manager will work with persons across the age continuum from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. As a leader in the Department of Rehabilitation Services, the incumbent sets priorities in conjunction with the Director and follows through on assignments in an independent manner. The Manager is also responsible for facilitating
change as Rehab Services and UCSF Health continues to grow.
Oversees staff to ensure proper procedures and policies are followed. Coordinates services with other patient care treatment personnel to assure proper patient care. Develops and implements patient customer care standards and ensures compliance with organizational and regulatory agency standards.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $118,300.00 - $268,900.00 (Annual Rate).

At UCSF Health Saint Francis Hospital and UCSF St. Mary’s Hospital, we provide Rehabilitation services
primarily to adult and geriatric inpatients, working with a multidisciplinary care team to improve the function
and cognition of patients in our primary and secondary acute care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities,
and ambulatory clinics. The Department of Rehabilitation Services at UCSF Health provides Occupational, Physical, and Speech Language and Dysphagia Therapy for patients across the age continuum in UCSF Health acute care
hospitals, inpatient rehab facilities, and outpatient locations throughout San Francisco.

Rehabilitation practice.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in related rehabilitation service.
- Clinical practice knowledge and applied background in a rehabilitation service.
- Applies knowledge industry best practices in patient diagnosis and treatment to improve clinical workflows. Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes.
- Knowledge of relevant rehabilitation industry patient care / equipment management federal, state and local laws and regulations.
- Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment.
- Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change. Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving rehabilitation processes, procedures, and systems.
- Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with peers, patients, multidisciplinary team members, senior management, and assigned staff.
- Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution.
- Demonstrates sound judgement. Verbal and written communication skills to identify the best way to communicate with patients and educate them on their treatment.
- Demonstrated abilities to actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
- Advanced user of internal patient care documentation technology. Knowledge of available information technology software in the industry.
- Ability to collaborate within and across departments to integrate daily rehabilitation patient care activities and resolve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
License/Certification
- California license in related rehabilitation service (OT, PT, SLP)
- AHA BLS Certification
