Job Summary
The Coder Educator Supervisor & Physician Liaison, under the leadership of the Director, will work independently and have primary responsibility for the supervision of FPRMO coding education staff. The Supervisor will be responsible for supervising the coding team that performs physician education, coder training, coding, auditing, policy generation, and charge resolution according to CMS and payor guidelines. The Supervisor must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with administrators, faculty, department leaders, and staff. The incumbent will conduct coding reviews of the coding staff and provide feedback and/or training to ensure accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines. The incumbent will identify coding and edit trends and identify opportunities for improvement. This information will be communicated to the Revenue Managers, Associate Director, and the Director of Faculty Practice Revenue Management Operations. The incumbent is expected to stay current with all applicable billing and coding regulations and be able to effectively communicate these regulations to all levels of faculty, management, and staff.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. The annual salary range for this position is $98,300-$210,300, with a target entry point of $141,128. Department Description
Faculty Practice Management Operations supports the Revenue Cycle functions for charge capture, coding, charge edits, authorizations and RFI resolution supporting over 14 clinical departments and 50 clinical programs. Charge generation for the unit is roughly $2.8 billion dollars supporting both Faculty Practice Operations as well as the Adult, Children’s, and Cancer Services. Impact of revenue cycle work for this unit is felt by Faculty Practice Operations (FPO), as well as UCSF Health Inpatient Facilities.
Required Qualifications
Required: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or RHIT or CCS, is in good standing with AAPC or AHIMA and maintains yearly credits to ensure certification.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or four years of relevant experience.
- Three or more years of related physician coding healthcare experience, coupled with Supervisory or Lead experience.
- Must be able to pass all classes related to the UCSF Medical Center’s computer systems and related UCSF coding and billing applications. May include off-site billing systems from partner hospitals
- Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-9 coding conventions, and clinical documentation requirements
- Prior experience in healthcare.
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and Commercial carrier’s coding and billing standards
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Ability to work onsite in our Emeryville office.
- Prior working knowledge of the EPIC (Apex) system
- Secondary coding certification
