What You’ll Do:
✔ Travel to project sites and conduct hands-on technical fieldwork
✔ Locate, observe, and log borings, probes, and test pits from plan layouts
✔ Participate in drilling and sampling operations using manual and power-operated augering equipment
✔ Install, read, and interpret field instruments (observation wells, inclinometers, etc.)
✔ Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with project objectives and safety standards
✔ Work closely with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives to achieve project success
✔ Identify and report potential risks, scope changes, and project challenges to leadership
✔ Maintain a strong safety-first mindset, following all company and industry regulations

Responsibilities:
- Locate, observe, and log field borings, probes, and test pits from plan layouts.
- Participate in drilling and sampling operations using manual or power-operated hand augering equipment.
- Install, read, and interpret field instruments such as observation wells, inclinometers, etc.
- Perform observations of field activities for compliance with project objectives and prepare reports documenting activities.
- Practice loss prevention techniques.
- Provide liaison with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives to achieve satisfactory field operations.
- Is responsible for alerting the project leader or supervisor of difficulties encountered, cost and time overruns, change in scope requested by the client, potential liability exposure, or any other matter pertinent to the satisfactory completion of the project.
- Project a positive image of the Firm in all professional/personal contacts.
- Conduct activities safely and healthily and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements
- Conducts all work in a manner that demonstrates that safety is a core value.
- Follows UES safety plans, programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conducts periodic job site safety observations.
- Participates in group safety meetings and job site tailgate safety meetings.
- Completes assigned safety training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or Civil Engineering
- Must have a strong work ethic and the ability to assess and react to project situations.
- Good oral and written communication skills, including good technical writing capabilities.
- An ability for accuracy and detail in performing technical observations.
- Ability to effectively use computers.
- Ability to use initiative and work independently within the limitations of experience
- Knowledge of various exploratory and laboratory techniques.
This position primarily works in an outdoor work environment, regularly exposed to varying field conditions, including:
- Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris.
- Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments.
- Exposure to environmental elements including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions.
The physical requirements for this position may include and are not limited to:
- Ability to lift and/or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
- Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
- Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
- Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
- Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vison, depth vision, and ability to focus) smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit).
