Overview

Manages the Functional Safety Department and is responsible for organizing and coordinating UF Health Shands Emergency Preparedness response and recovery efforts. Manages elements of the Environment of Care Program including Safety, Fire Safety, and Hazardous Material and Waste. Ensures all NFPA, Joint Commission, OSHA, AHCA, and other state and federal regulatory requirements for hospital safety and emergency response are met. Maintains the hospital Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP). Leads, coordinates, and/or facilitates interdepartmental/interagency emergency management and hospital preparedness grants, and ensures program compliance with federal, state and local regulations and policies. Develops, maintains and implements emergency response and hospital safety procedures and ensures these procedures are communicated and adhered to and makes recommendations regarding best practices. Oversees the HazMat Decon Team Program, ensures regulatory/medical compliance and educational requirements are met. Facilitates all hazmat decon, disaster response, emergency operations, and specialized safety training sessions to ensure the hospital has a trained and competent staff. Maintains emergency preparedness equipment and supplies, including decon and respiratory protection equipment. Organizes drills and training exercises and reviews results of drill data to identify trends/inconsistencies and proposes effective corrective measures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: A Bachelor's Degree and three years of management experience in Emergency Preparedness and/or Hospital Safety. An Associate's Degree and five years of management experience in Emergency Preparedness and/or Hospital Safety. Additional experience in Emergency Preparedness or Hospital Safety in a management position may substitute for education requirements on a yearly equivalency. Experience preferred in the Healthcare setting and Certifications such as CHEC, CHEP, or CHEM desired. Knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, TJC, AHCA codes and regulations preferred; in-depth knowledge of State, Federal and local codes and regulations related to Emergency Preparedness and Response; strong organization and communication (verbal and writing) skills. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose as a 'non-frequent driver' NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or University of Florida Health automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Please indicate the appropriate operator designation on the Request for Personnel (RFP) form at the time a RFP is submitted to post the position. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Florida Driver's License
