Overview
Primarily responsible for quality control of ICD-9 diagnosis and CPT-4 coding for the department of Radiology in accordance with all Shands Healthcare and department standards related to billing protocols and compliance. Reviews reports and provides feedback to coding source which may include coding software, physicians, coders, and/or clerks. Codes Interventional Radiology reports. Contacts providers when information discrepancies and/or deficiencies are identified. Identifies trends and opportunities for coding improvement. Utilizes all current insurance guidelines to generate clean claims by utilizing knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding, and medical terminology.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school graduate or equivalent; and a minimum of 6 months previous medical coding experience required. CCS or CPC certification required (or obtained within one year of employment). Knowledge of medical terminology required and knowledge of human anatomy and physiology preferred. Experience in Interventional Radiology preferred. This position requires a person with initiative, able to work independently, and the ability to take on responsibilities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Please indicate the appropriate operator designation on the Request for Personnel (RFP) form at the time a RFP is submitted to post the position. Licensure/Certification/Registration: CCS, or CPC required (or obtained within one year of employment).
