What are the responsibilities and job description for the Insurance Financial Specialist | Main Campus Surgical | Days position at UF Health?
The Insurance/Financial Specialist is responsible for navigating the complex landscape of insurance and assisting patients and/or families to access financial resources. The Specialist will need effective communication with insurance providers, and collaboration with healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Research and verify insurance coverage and authorization requirements for commercial, Medicare, and Medicare replacement plans
- Ensures that accurate financial information is obtained and that the patients are aware of the financial policies and procedures in relation to point of service collections, payment plans, and financial assistance.
- Contacts patients prior to service date to discuss benefits, estimated balances, liability and financial obligations determined by insurance requirements and/or coverage limitations.
- Coordination and management of bariatric and physician referrals and meeting the patients’ needs through the entire Bariatric and Surgical processes
- Coordinates with business office in setting up satisfactory payment arrangements on self-pay or insurance-balance patients and strategically handling all phone calls.
- Acts as a liaison for our third party vendors, coordinates and schedules new consultations from third party vendors
- Assists physician’s offices with the sharing of billing information. Refers accounts requiring an audit to the appropriate entity for review.
- Maintains integrity of the patients’ medical record by ensuring positive ID through the use of county issued vouchers, Driver’s Licenses, and Social Security Numbers.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/Equivalent is required.
3 years of experience in insurance and financial customer service is required.
Preferences:
Experience in a hospital or medical physician office as an insurance authorization specialist
