A Buyer is responsible for effectively sourcing and procuring wood products and related products, in conjunction with other buyers, other purchasing departments, plant management, & salespeople from different facilities.
Works under general supervision; relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

A Buyer is responsible for effectively sourcing and procuring wood products and related products, in conjunction with other buyers, other purchasing departments, plant management, & salespeople from different facilities.
Works under general supervision; relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks; a certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
- Identifies material sources that are relative to the needs of the facilities assigned.
- Develops and maintains a relationship with sales and sales management of key suppliers and demonstrates the ability and willingness to translate that relationship into solid cash and program business.
- Procures products that meet or exceed the quality, service, and price requirements of the assigned facilities.
- Provides current market levels and an accurate prediction for the future direction of the market.
- Develops and maintains a clear understanding of the processes and products produced at those facilities
- Gains and maintains an understanding of the manufacturing capabilities, customers, products, sales programs, competitors, and service needs for the facilities assigned.
- Proactively offers relevant products to sales and plant management.
- Helps develop and grow sales and margin by developing an effective working relationship with sales and management.
- Operates inventory software efficiently and accurately as follows:
- Creates and updates purchase orders.
- Responds to and settles claims as they develop, according to Company policies.
- Navigates Cardex in effort to keep on top of inventory.
- Sets up and navigates buy lists.
- Prepares various reports as required.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in lumber industry.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook, and other business software.
- Working knowledge of lumber math and business math.
- Working knowledge of commodity market conditions and dynamics.
- Working knowledge of lumber and panel grade rules
