Preferred Qualifications Position Summary
The Academic Services Professional is responsible for advising students in an area of academic study to ensure students meet their degree requirements and graduate in a timely manner. Academic Service Professionals differ from Academic Service Paraprofessionals in the level of autonomy to perform academic services, educational requirements for the role, and the degree of routine administrative tasks. The Academic Services Professional typically reports to an individual in the Academic Affairs Manager position and may occasionally supervise individuals within the Academic Services Paraprofessional positions.

- Advise, provide support and guidance, and communicate with a caseload of students on academic procedures, policies, goals, objectives, professional development, and problem resolution for assigned for the following academic departments: Financial Planning, Housing & Consumer Economic; Nutritional Sciences; Human Development and Family Science; and Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors.
- All academic advisors are expected to assist students in the College of Family Consumer Sciences from matriculation to graduation.
- This includes meeting with students to recommend a course schedule, preparing advising forms, answering student questions, and maintaining communication with students.
- Advise applicable minor when needed.
- Participate in Dawson Drop-ins weekly during fall and spring semesters.
- Participate in Orientation activities.
- Assist with course scheduling and classroom enrollment management questions as needed.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners in the recruitment and retention of students.
- Meet with prospective students who have an interest in major-related career paths.
- Participate in major-related recruitment events such as Majors Fair, Double Dawgs Fair, and other opportunities to recruit students and inform influencers.
- Collaborate with the Director, Assistant Director, and FACS Recruitment Coordinator to ensure a coordinated approach to student recruitment and retention.
- Maintain a professional skill set necessary to be a part of a strong and collaborative team through professional development to enhance professional and personal capacity to perform job duties and responsibilities.
- Assist Department with course sequencing and classroom enrollment management.
- Meet with and advise prospective students who have an interest in major related career paths.
- Participate in major related recruitment events such as Majors Fair, Double Dawgs Fair, and other settings to recruit students and inform influencers.
- Counsels and confers with prospective students.
- Collaborate with other departments and/or college and central administration to ensure a coordinated approach to student recruitment and retention.
