Position Summary
The Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication seeks a full-time Lecturer with a 100% instructional appointment. The successful candidate will be responsible for all duties related to AESC 4920/6920, Project FOCUS, AGED 4060/6040 Greenhouse Management for Educators, AGED/EDUC 4361/6361 Methods of Elementary Agriscience, and other courses as needed. In addition, the incumbent will have program management skills to direct Project FOCUS, a service-learning class offered by The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and housed in ALEC. The lecturer will be teaching graduate and upper-level undergraduate students majoring in science-intensive disciplines at UGA foundational classroom teaching skills, including lesson planning and instructional design, experiential and active learning techniques, and assessment of learning. Project FOCUS students teach science lessons in compliance with Georgia Performance Standards two to three times each week during the 15-week semester. Other responsibilities include managing site relationships with local school districts, pairing students with elementary and middle school science teachers, and ensuring proper student background clearances before placing students in classrooms, continued support and communication with teachers, evaluating student performance, and supporting student growth through structured assignments and formative and summative assessments. This lecturer will be expected to design and implement a plan for promoting Project FOCUS at UGA and further developing the program for growth. This faculty member will also be responsible for ordering greenhouse supplies and supervising the annual student-led AGED 4060/6040 Plant Sale, which funds AGED student travel. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Agricultural Education and be available to start August 1, 2025. Expected instructional course load is 25 credit hours per academic year, and salary $80,000/academic year
