Job Summary
Maintain the plant control equipment including the gas & steam turbine, BOP, CEMS, and various PLC based control systems. Troubleshoot, test, calibrate, maintain and perform limited repairs on electrical systems and components of low and high voltage ranges. Troubleshoot, test, calibrate, maintain and perform limited repairs on plant instrumentation, controllers, positioners, analyzers and actuators. Assist in the refinement of and participate in the plant Preventative Maintenance Program to enhance reliability of all plant electrical and control equipment and components.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Incorporates safe behavior into all activities and complies with all established safety and health policies and procedures.
- Maintains all plant Distributed Control System I/O devices including hardware problems, operator interface consoles, loop checks, and related service, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Maintains logs, manuals, records, blueprints and operating procedures in a professional manner and provides written reports on control system conditions when required.
- Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on electrical switchgear, process controls, transmitters, analyzers, gauges and other instrumentation and control equipment in accordance with plant and vendor procedures.
- Maintains, calibrates and repairs plant IC&E devices.
- Performs routine trouble shooting activities, assist in developing PM procedures, and prepare other records and reports as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must possess basic math and computer skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of distributed control systems (Allen Bradley, ABB, and Woodward knowledge and experience preferred), computer based systems, and the ability to use computer software based troubleshooting tool systems.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical circuits and principles, and capable of working on low, medium, and high voltage circuits and associated equipment, air and hydrogen cooled generators, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of instrumentation including process controls, combustion turbine controls, steam systems, etc.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose problems in instrument loops, low to high voltage electrical applications, process loops, DCS systems, etc.
- Read and interpret electrical and mechanical blue prints/schematics.
- Must have the ability to work for extended periods in extreme hot, cold, and other harsh environments, both indoors and outdoors.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairwells, and work from elevated platforms.
Education and Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent with trade school, military service or other technical training or a minimum of five years maintenance experience in power generating facilities or process plants with experience working as an IC&E tech. Additional professional training and/or Combined Cycle power plant experience is preferred.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and a background investigation.
