Job Title : Library InternDepartment : LibraryEmployment Status : Part-Time, Non-ExemptSupervisor : LibrarianJob Summary : Under the general direction of the Librarian, the Library Intern assists with collection management projects while supporting community engagement. The intern will help refine the Library Knowledge Organization System by copy-cataloging materials and acquisitions and help to reorder book collection in the stacks. Public-facing tasks within the position offer the intern an opportunity to engage with museum guests and staff as well as learn about and support the role of a library within an art museum.Desired Qualifications : A bachelor’s degree or enrollment in an undergraduate program, preferably in Art History or a related Humanities field.Broad understanding of knowledge organization systems.Excellent organizational and time-management skills.Willingness and desire to learn.Initiative and independence supported by the ability to problem solve and think analytically.Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.Key Tasks : Works throughout the library space on collection management and community engagement.Assists with library collection management by copy-cataloging, shelving, and composing inventories.Assists with donation management, either to withdraw or accept, with an emphasis on artist files and oversized folios.Attends the reading room by shelving and receiving periodicals, fielding circulation (staff only), addressing questions about HoMA and other reference questions and requests.Assists with inter-departmental communication of library needs and services.Other internship-relevant duties as requested.Educational Outcomes : Intern will gain a basic understanding of collection management within an art library, including collection areas and criteria for donation and acquisition.Intern will strengthen documentation skills such as cataloging, noting census, or tracking work and project progress.Intern will strengthen skills in research and referencing.Intern will learn about and support the role and routine of a library within a community and non-profit organization.Intern will learn about the museum’s permanent collection and exhibitions.Compensation : The pay rate for HoMA interns is $20.00 per hour. This opportunity includes : Shop, Museum Café, and Art School discounts for the duration of the internship.Onsite parking provided.Working Conditions and Atmosphere : The Library Intern works under the supervision of the librarian with periods of independent work. Frequent and clear communication is required, and a regular check-in will be scheduled.
