River Oaks Hospital, located minutes outside of New Orleans, Louisiana, is a 126-bed psychiatric facility that has provided quality treatment to individuals suffering from mental illness and/or addictive disorders since 1970. Situated on a 14-acre campus, inpatient services are available for adults and adolescents. We also offer a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) for adults.
The New Orleans Institute provides specialized services for the treatment of trauma and compulsive behaviors. The Eating Disorders Treatment Center offers a comprehensive program for male and female adults with anorexia, bulimia, and related eating disorders. Both the New Orleans Institute and the Eating Disorders Treatment Center are nationally recognized for their excellence. These programs receive referrals from around the United States and are acknowledged as leading centers in their respective fields.
River Oaks Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Intake Counselor for Admissions (PRN). The Intake Counselor provides telephonic and in-person risk assessment and crisis intervention, initial contact with referral sources and potential patients, coordinates the referral and intake process, determines appropriate level of care, facilitates the admission process, and maintains communication with referral sources, families, patients and unit staff. Promotes patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the hospital. Performs duties in accordance with the facility’s mission, values, policies, and behavioral standards.
Job Duties may include but are not limited to:
Accurately and throuoghly completes Inqury Call Sheet (ICS) to include obtained information and outcome of telephonic assessment
- Demonstrates knowledge of inoatient and hospitalization admission criteria and is able to apply such to individual patients.
- Upon determination of appropriateness for potential admission, obtains insurance information and accurately and throuoghly completes insurance and Patientat Admission Form.
- Upon completion of psychiatric evaluation and determination of need for admission, completes pre-certification process prior to sending patient to unit.
- Explains the evaluation and admission process to the potential patient and informs patient of necessary items to bring for hospital stay
- Facilitates appropriate after-hours mental health/substance abuse assessments, crisis interventions and referrals to an appropriate level of care with the support of the Admissions and Business Development teams and on-call physician.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Prior intake, assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with a psychiatric mental health population required, preferably in an inpatient setting
- Master’s Degree required, preferably in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
- Current certification or licensure by the State of Louisiana (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, RN), or applying for supervision/under supervision preferred
- Knowledge of hospital admissions functions, leadership skills, crisis intervention and risk assessment, psychiatric diagnoses symptomology, basic chemical dependency, age specific growth and development and crisis and behavior management
