Business Advocate/Community Liason
Newport News Behavioral Health invite applications for the position of Community Liaison to be based out of southeastern Virginia and covering a regional southeastern Virginia area. Newport News Behavioral Health is dedicated to providing high quality care to children and adolescents in need, using quality, and evidence-based practice treatments. The facility is accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC) and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).
Position Summary:
The Business Advocate directly serves as the liaison between the facility, the community, and referring agencies. The Business Advocate is directly responsible for creating demand for Newport News Behavioral Health’s services through the effective application of ethical marketing principles and sales methods. The Business Advocate provides community education on the mission and goals of Newport News Behavioral Health by utilizing professional account management skills.
In collaboration with the Director of Business Development and Business Development Team, the Business Advocate presents a positive and professional public image of the facility within the community.
The Business Advocate is responsible for the implementing the strategic sales plan of Newport News Behavioral Health, enhancing the facility’s brand/image, effectively managing their assigned territory and accounts, and works to achieve departmental and facility business development goals. The Business Advocate must be able to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication in a fast-paced environment.
This position involves daily travel in a defined geographic territory to meet with contacts with primary referral sources including hospitals, specialty clinics, pediatricians, inpatient/outpatient rehabilitation centers, psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health professionals, other physicians and other community resources.
They must have experience and be comfortable with cold calling on potential referral sources. Travel is required for 90% of the role.
Hours are based on departmental, and facility needs and may include day, evening, and weekend hours, as directed by the Director of Business Development.
Job Duties:
- Plans, coordinates, and implements special functions including workshops, seminars, symposiums, receptions, conferences, and open houses, to highlight facility resources and programs.
- Gathers market intelligence and shares that information with DBD to assist with business development strategies.
- Represents the organization by serving on community committees to build business relationships; make public presentations.
- Utilizes strategic planning in planning short and long term development goals.
- Gathers information and identifies customer needs through effective meeting planning, documenting outcome and next steps.

Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 21 years of age. Must have the following:
Education: Minimum of Bachelors in Marketing, Business Administration or in some Behavioral Science.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience directly related to mental health care marketing in hospitals or managed care environments. A strong client service background is mandatory. Has proven record in business development and sales. Ability to effectively manage time. Will manage several projects concurrently. May perform under demanding and changing circumstances with frequent interruptions. Must exercise good judgment, have extremely high business ethics, be flexible, and adaptable, polite and customer service oriented. Accuracy is mandatory in all aspects of position. Knowledge in areas of marketing and business development in healthcare and in managed care. Working knowledge of public relations, communications, media relations and event planning. Understanding of behavioral sciences and the objectives of mental health treatment in inpatient and outpatient settings in needed. Excellent oral, written and analytical skills are mandatory. Must be good public speaker and be able to present materials in a clear and concise and logical manner. Superior interpersonal skills are necessary for successful performance of duties. Must be computer literate and be able to operate simple machinery necessary to perform duties such as a computer, copy machines, calculator, typewriters, VCR, camcorder, television, camera, overhead projector, etc. Must possess solid ethical standards in relation to all aspects of business development. Must possess demonstrated superior leadership abilities so that can direct a marketing team, establish priorities and successfully plan, develop, implement, coordinate and manage marketing systems.
