Responsibilities

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) continues to be a leader in providing the highest level of quality and compassionate healthcare for the D.C. GW Hospital achieved "High Performing" status in two specialty areas, Neurology and Neuroscience.

In addition, GW Hospital receiving “High Performing” designations for the following 10 procedures: COPD, Diabetes, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Kidney Failure, Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma, Lung Cancer Surgery, Pneumonia, Prostrate Cander Surgery and Stroke.  

Measured by factors such as patient outcomes, "High Performing" is a designation U.S. News & World Report bestows to recognize performance in these specialties that is significantly better than the national average. GW Hospital received the American College of Cardiology’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) Chest Pain – Myocardial Infarction (MI) Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2023. *GW Hospital is the only hospital in Washington, D.C., to be recognized for this service line.

Main tasks

 

Clinical Pharmacist

 

The Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacist Specialist manages the Hospital Antibiotic Stewardship Program (ASP) by providing collaborative pharmaceutical care to Hospital patients through the ASP with the support of the Infectious Disease physician(s), faculty and house staff physicians, pharmacists and clinical microbiology staff.  As required, the Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacist Specialist provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution, patient counseling and teaching.  Clinical Pharmacists fill orders for medications, monitor patients’ drug therapies and provide drug information. Clinical Pharmacists supervises and directs supportive staff.  In addition, the Clinical Pharmacist provides pharmaceutical care services to include advising physicians on matters pertaining to drug usage and control within assigned hospital locations; participate in the development and delivery of continuing education programs for Pharmacy, Patient Care Services, Medical staff and students.

Qualifications

Education/Qualification

 

Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D.) required

Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice in the District of Columbia

Completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency (or equivalent) with experience in Infectious diseases

Completed a specialized clinical residency/fellowship in infectious diseases (preferred)

BPS Board Certified Infectious Diseases Pharmacist (preferred)

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written

Effective interpersonal skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities

Knowledgeable of and complies with laws, rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy.

Pyxis experience with knowledge of Pyxis Reports (i.e., optimization, load/unload, nursing narcotic access, etc.)

Ability to use Cerner, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint

Some travel, to follow-up with Corporate, Financial, GPO, Compliance and Pyxis issues.
