What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIR - MED/SURG position at UHS?
Responsible for providing guidance, planning, and direction of the Medical/Surgical/Tele Department. Responsible for making independent judgment/decisions concerning emergency situations in the absence of the physician or other medical authority. Responsible for maintaining good public relations in the areas assigned. Responsible for interpreting and presenting policies, procedures, and standards for approval and implementation in the Medical/Surgical unit and Pediatric Unit. Must take RN House Supervisor duties as needed and provide patient care as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs duties in any Med-Surg/Tele nursing/clinical capacity as needed and qualified.

Qualifications
Experience: Three (3) years experience in Medical/Surgical nursing. Previous general and supervisory experience required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration, etc.: Must have Registered Nurse license in the State of Texas. BSN preferred. BLS required.
Special Skills, Knowledge: ACLS within six months of hire of hire. Possesses leadership qualities and is motivated. Demonstrates knowledge and competence in area of Medical/Surgical nursing theory and practices. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing and moral ethics. Exhibits the ability to plan and complete work effectively. Exhibits creativity and innovativeness or willingness to implement creative and/or innovative ideas of others. Demonstrates competence in written and verbal communication.
Education: Graduate of a state approved school of professional nursing practice. Maintains current licensure in the State of Texas. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree preferred.
