The General Laborer position at UIC Alaska is a crucial role in the success of our construction projects. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for performing various physical labor tasks, including cleaning and preparing sites, digging trenches, setting braces to support excavations, erecting scaffolding, and cleaning up rubble and debris.
You will identify and load/offload building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations. Additionally, you may operate a truck to dispose of demolition materials. The ability to utilize hand and power tools of all types, such as air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, and small mechanical hoists, is also required.
In this role, you will work closely with other craft workers, assisting them as needed and performing other duties as assigned. Your attention to safety protocols and ability to follow OSHA rules are essential in maintaining a safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean and prepare construction sites
- Dig trenches and set braces to support excavations
- Erect scaffolding and dismantle it when completed
- Load and unload building materials, machinery, or tools
- Operate a truck to dispose of demolition materials
Requirements:
- 1 year of general labor experience or equivalent
- Able to lift/push/pull 50lbs to 100lbs on an occasional basis
- Able to lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis
- Ability to bend, squat, crouch, crawl, and kneel
- Ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps)
