On-The-Job (OJT) Trainees: High School Students living in Utqiaġvik, Alaska
Arctic Operations & Development (AO&D) focuses on work opportunities in the Utqiaġvik area. Divisions under AO&D are UIC Municipal Services, UIC Science, UIC Lands and Real Estate, UIC Sand and Gravel, UIC Water Plant and UIC Car Rental.
Responsibilities
Training Program Objectives:
- Provide students with job skills based on work opportunities that would offer them a foothold in the employment market.
- Encourage students to adopt specific strategies and positive work attitudes to enhance their ability to sustain employment and self-employment opportunities.
- Inspire and motivate students to maximize the benefits that are derived from their participation in the program.
- Facilitate improved self-respect, self-esteem, and confidence, thereby, enhancing their ability to interact successfully in the community.
- Assist in developing the professional and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the workplace.
- Forge strategic alliances with private and public sector employers in the creation of job opportunities and the development of the corporation’s human resource capacity.
- Develop shareholder/descendant interest in work opportunities specific to our businesses.
Qualifications
Eligibility Requirements for Trainees:
- Must be a junior or senior in high school in good standing.
- Must demonstrate willingness to learn and be enthusiastic throughout the selection process; and will be placed within the organization based upon their interests, business needs and available resources.
- Must be a UIC Shareholder or the Descendant of a UIC Shareholder.
Physical Demands: The office environmental conditions consist of computer stations and desks with adequate and adjustable lighting. Chairs are designed to fit the various individuals and the tasks being performed.
