Associate Vice Chancellor for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Strategy

Position Summary
The associate vice chancellor for data science and artificial intelligence (AI) strategy will lead the university's approach to AI, ensuring its integration across academic programs, research initiatives, and administrative functions. This role involves steering AI-driven innovation, promoting ethical AI practices, and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration around data science and AI.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provides academic leadership and vision for the development of critical data studies programs and courses [including certificates] inclusive of statistics, data management, and artificial intelligence for the UIC community.

Crafts and implements a data studies education strategy that is aligned with the university’s mission and objectives and done in consultation with academic units from across the university.

Promotes the importance, acquisition, and use of data literacy across the UIC community.

Maintains deep knowledge of developments in education science, learning science, and data science education to help the university operate at the cutting edge of these domains.

Cultivates and maintains a strong understanding of the financial condition of UIC, the legal and policy environment in which it operates and the impacts on its students, staff, and faculty.

Serves as an intermediary between the Office of the Chancellor and other university units and administrative offices on matters related to data science and innovation policy.

Develops and supports the implementation of innovative approaches to training UIC students.

Maintains academic and professional network presence related to responsibilities.

Effectively and regularly communicates the importance of UIC’s mission and data science literacy to the residents and community leaders of Chicago.

Supports the cultivation of new revenue streams related to assigned duties.

Reviews funding opportunities and supports grant submission efforts.

Recruits excellent talent and trains assigned personnel.

Supervises and evaluates the work product of assigned personnel.

Sets clear, concise goals and defines key performance indicators for performance and projects.

Encourages and enables an atmosphere of continuous improvement, professional development, and team motivation.
