The Building Service Supervisor reports to the Superintendent of Building Services / Assistant Director of Facilities Management, whom in turn report to the Associate Director of Facilities Management.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Direct Daily Activities - The supervisor works directly with the Building Service Workers in accomplishing the Building Services tasks. They prepare the Daily Work Sheets, detailing the specific tasks to be performed, ensuring departmental cleaning standards are met, directing corrective measures when needed, performing rounds with BSWs to obtain actionable information and to ensure that they are performing their tasks efficiently.
  • Training and Development - The supervisor demonstrates and instructs the Building Service Workers in the proper cleaning techniques, equipment use and maintenance, and safe and proper use of cleaning chemicals and supplies. The supervisor must distribute their labor resources in order to accomplish as many tasks as possible.
  • Timecards - The supervisor is responsible for approving the timecards of all Building Service Workers under his/her leadership. Correct job codes must be entered to insure the proper accounts are charged. The timecards also reflect the employees' use of benefits, so accuracy is very important.

Any changes in schedule or special cleaning requires notification (and on occasion, approval) of the affected department. This is the responsibility of the supervisor.

  • Supervisors also assist in developing the technical standards and maintenance requirements for equipment on inventory.
