The Digital Storyteller is a multimedia and interdisciplinary strategic videographer for Strategic Marketing and Communications at the University of Illinois Chicago. The purpose of this position is to plan, produce, and edit original video content that enhances the university's storytelling efforts across digital platforms. This role focuses on capturing dynamic video and photography content that highlights the UIC experience, including student life, research breakthroughs, academic achievements, and community engagement initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Create and execute original, high-quality, strategic, branded video and photo content as assigned.
Conceptualize and produce high-level video projects for marketing, external editorial media, social engagement channels, and other initiatives supporting student recruitment, student success, research, community engagement, training, brand messaging, advertising, and executive communications.
Assist with all aspects of video production, including scouting locations, managing drone operations, and overseeing music selection and video editing.
Understand the range and nature of all video distribution channels used by Strategic Marketing and Communications, and use that information to guide the creative process and final deliverables.
Identify and analyze target audiences for video campaigns and communications, using this information to inform the creative process and relevance of captured content.
Study, adapt, and incorporate contemporary video production techniques to maintain a fresh, current, and authentic visual identity that supports the UIC brand
Stay current by keeping abreast of developments and changes in video storytelling, industry trends, technological innovations in both video creation and consumption, as well as workflow and asset management.
Take responsibility for the care and maintenance of video production equipment.
Assist with enhancing and maintaining a video digital asset management system.
Aid in the maintenance, organization, metadata tagging, and sourcing of Strategic Marketing and Communications’ video asset management system and archive. Partner and coordinate with campus stakeholders to curate and implement a university-wide approach and system.
Support Strategic Marketing and Communications staff and campus partners in navigating the video archive and retrieving collective video assets for various campus messaging needs.
Serve as a visible member of the university community and provide assistance in video production trends.
Maintain consistent communication with video and communication team members to help them understand video trends and demonstrate how these trends can enhance the university's visual brand.
Assist with multimedia efforts to train and provide resources and best practices for visual storytelling through branded video styles to key communications staff both within Strategic Marketing and Communications and across campus.
Manage an annual calendar for scouting and shooting video content across the 16 schools and colleges while being informed and engaged with campus events, such as commencement and convocation, and coordinating with other campus videographers.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
