JOB SUMMARY :

Responsible for the development and administration of all employment, labor relations and human resources services, programs and policies for UIC and its Family of Companies under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer and in collaboration with the VP, Human Resources. The Senior Human Resources Director must have the proven capability and demonstrated skills to manage the human resources services and have the depth of knowledge and experience to successfully guide and direct human resources programs as the company grows.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES :

Leadership and Management :

Ensure effective human resource services across the company.
Lead the development of human resource goals, objectives, and systems.
Plan, organize and control human resource activities and ensure compliance to human resource policies and procedures.
Direct and coordinate human resources strategic initiatives; accountable for achieving the department’s strategic objectives.
Direct and coordinate the efforts of human resources professionals across the company.
Provide counsel and guidance to senior and executive management for all human resources and employment issues that affect performance and business relationships.
Provide subject matter consulting expertise to senior and executive management regarding hiring, performance management and termination issues.
Advise management of changes and implement necessary corrections accordingly.

Administration :

Enhance, develop, implement, and maintain compliance with all corporate and human resources policies and procedures by way of systems that will improve overall operational effectiveness.

Budget development for department, administer and control expenses within budget.

Analyze and manage proper compensation to ensure an equitable compensation program in alignment with the company wide compensation program.

Set employment and human resource and program structure, program oversight and performance, coordinates the delivery of human resource programs with subsidiary human resource personnel.

Oversees benefits programs for Alaska based operations, 401K, and PTO. Collaborates with UIC Risk Management, VP of Human Resources and Benefits Manager on the structure and renewal of corporate-wide self-insured health & welfare insurance programs.

Orientation, Training, and Development :

Coordinates HR and employment policies and procedures training, trains HR personnel to standard best practices, audits for compliance.

Collaborate with leadership and business units, assists in the planning and execution of shareholder hire and development goals.

Supervise department staff, coordinates efforts to achieve department deliverables and corporate strategic initiatives, develops and implements policies and procedures.

Knowledge & Critical Skills / Expertise :

Ability to provide leadership direction across a multi-faceted department of professionals.

Ability to build, motivate, and sustain a local quality Human Resources team.

Demonstrated consistent adherence to the highest degree of ethical conduct.

Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with superiors, peers, and subordinates.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

Bachelor’s degree Human Resources or Management related degree.

Minimum of ten (10) years Human Resources experience, a minimum of three (3) years of Human Resources in management level with supervisory experience.

Professional certification required (SPHR / PHR / SHRM-SCP / SHRM-CP). SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification is preferred for this role.

Experience of comparable value may be substituted for the education requirement.

Additional Job Requirements :

Valid driver’s license.

All employees must pass Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and follow all Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program guidelines and requirements.

Work Environment & Conditions :

This position is based in Anchorage or Utqiaġvik, Alaska, with frequent travel within Alaska and infrequent travel in the Lower 48 as needed. Typical office setting in a large office building in an urban environment (Anchorage) or rural environment (Utqiaġvik) but may have occasional travel to construction sites. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require frequent standing and walking. The work environment is usually moderately quiet.
