What are the responsibilities and job description for the Telemetry Technician - Central Telemetry position at uic?
UI Health is seeking two (2) Electrocardiographic (ECG) Technician (Central Telemetry) to join our Hospital Cardio Nursing team. This role will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Electrocardiographic (ECG) Technician promotes safe patient outcomes for patients requiring remote telemetry monitoring. The electrocardiographic technician observes, interprets and documents the patient's ECG rhythm patterns and ST segment analysis as seen on the telemetry ECG monitors. This person ensures prompt discovery and reporting of changes in heart rhythm to appropriate staff members in accordance with established policies, protocols and current standards.
There are two shifts available which include the following;
Part-Time 50% FTE Days 7:00 am - 3:30 pm with rotating weekends
Full-Time 100% FTE Nights 11:00 pm - 7:30 am with rotating weekends
Duties & Responsibilities:
- ECG Rhythm Interpretations:
- Provides continuous ECG monitoring and interpretation for patients on telemetry
- Observes ECG rhythms on telemetry monitor
- Interprets ECG rhythm and documents interpretation
- Runs strip for each telemetry patient every four (4) hours; Interprets strip, Labels rhythm, Places strip in assigned location for review by patient’s nurse and physician
- Notifies staff in a prompt and timely manner regarding changes in patient’s heart rate, rhythm, oxygen saturation level or other pertinent patient information.
Provides documentation of change, placing rhythm strips in the medical record - Provides trending information from monitors as requested
- Accurately labels all rhythm strips
Equipment and Supply Maintenance:
- Maintains equipment and supplies for telemetry system.
- Monitors equipment daily and assures ordering of supplies on a daily/weekly basis.
- Cleans lead wires and transmitters after each patient use and return them to storage. Note: Charge RN checks inventory of telemetry boxes at end of each shift and follows up discrepancies with nursing staff.
- Promptly notifies Biomedical engineering personnel of malfunction problems with equipment
Emergency Response:
- Recognizes the need to escalate to rapid response team (RRT) or #1 Emergency Performs full disclosure of patients’ rhythms
- Notifies Risk Department when necessary
Patient Care:
- Changes electrodes and batteries
- Complies with confidentiality and privacy requirements in the care of patients and their records.
- Adheres to policies and procedures of hospital, unit, and infection control standard
- Maintains professional manner through interactions with patients’ families and peers
Other Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibility for personal growth, clinical competence and continuing education by attending educational activities, mandatory in-services as well as staff and departmental meetings.
- Reviews and updates equipment and skills checklists annually.
- Maintains TB Testing compliance.
- Participates in continuous improvement activities, committees and projects.
