Position Summary
The purpose of this faculty position is to contribute to building and staffing a multidisciplinary clinical center for the
management of temporomandibular joint disease (TMD), orofacial pain (OFP), and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients
within the College of Dentistry and the UI Health System. Additionally, to contribute to the development of national and
international collaborative multi-disciplinary clinical and basic science research projects, including both intramural and
extramural funding, which will result in the advancement of evidence-based pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and continuing
educational and clinical programs for the diagnosis and management of TMD, OFP, and OSA patients.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist the College in building a curricular and clinical program in holistic management of chronic orofacial and head and neck pain including the development of a dental sleep medicine clinical service and where indicated, application of sleep medicine into the DMD curriculum.
Clinical patient care responsibilities in the multi-disciplinary center for the treatment of TMD, OFP and OSA patients.
Serve the community needs regarding orofacial pain, TMD, and OSA.
Teach in pre-doctoral and advanced program level clinical courses.
Supervise in the Post-Graduate Orthodontic Clinic.
Serve as director of graduate and undergraduate courses.
Serve on Master’s thesis committees.
Assist with course development and evaluation criteria.
Consider the development of Residencies, Fellowships (e.g., Orofacial Pain).
Teach in a variety of seminars and conferences in the department.
Provide creative leadership in further development of undergraduate and graduate programming.
Advise and direct and mentor, and serve as research advisor, to undergraduate and graduate students.
Participate with other faculty in creation of clinical research programs.
Collaborate with other COD, COM, UIC Departments for patient care and scholarly activities.
Perform clinically oriented, and basic science research leading to national and international presentations and peerreviewed publications.
Participate in collegiate faculty meetings as well as departmental staff meetings, and other divisional meetings and departmental conferences on a regular basis.
Participate in SGL teaching for pre-doctoral students.
Participate in continuing education programs in the College and at other locations as deemed appropriate.
Participate in departmental and college committees.
Participate in public service activities.
Provides excellent customer service to patients.
Advance the mission of the Department, COD, and UIC.
Other duties as assigned.Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
