Summary:
Employees in positions allocated to this level coordinate and supervise the activities of all designated personnel assigned to a common activity and/or mutual work periods. They work under general direction from higher level personnel where objectives are defined and work is reviewed on the basis of meeting objectives. The extent of decision making judgment used to carry out the job duties is to interpret and apply broad discretion and to serve as a technical authority in the application of methods. Employees at this level have access to department-level confidential data (i.e., student data, staff/personnel files, police reports).
Duties & Responsibilities:
Patrol: Responsibilities of this duty includes - vehicular patrol of campus lots, roadways and parking areas; foot patrol of campus lots, parking areas and grounds; issuance of parking violation citations; directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic as necessary or required; places, or removes, traffic control devices as required or directed; assists motorists in distress; provides information, direction and assistance to the university community and visitors; deters, and or detects, criminal activity or behavior; and promotes good university/community relations.
Investigations: Responsibilities of this duty includes - responding to criminal and non-criminal situations (observed or reported); preparing written reports, or completing forms, regarding a situation or incident; apprehension of persons committing criminal activities or behavior; effecting an arrest; and testifying in court with integrity.
Police/Community Relations: Responsibilities of this duty includes - providing escorts as requested or required; interaction with the community; and the promotion of departmental/community relations.
Emergency Response: Responsibilities of this duty includes - providing immediate and effective response to emergency needs, as required by circumstances.
Reports: Responsibilities of this duty includes - making written reports, or completing forms, as required or directed.
Operations: Responsibilities of this duty includes - supervision and direction of the activities of subordinate Police Officers, Security Guards, Police Telecommunicators and Parking Service Agents; assists superior officers as directed or required; assumes the duties of a superior officer, in cases where directed or required; participates in developmental activities of the department; knowledge of departmental and university policies/procedures/rules and regulations, and applicable State statutes, city or county ordinances; and makes inspections of shift operations and personnel to assure compliance with pertinent policies and procedures.
