Position Summary:
The Jewish Life Department oversees UJA-Federation of New York’s strategic planning and allocations in Jewish education, identity and community development. With a diverse portfolio of initiatives and partnerships, the department seeks to inspire Jewish life around the globe. The Jewish Life Department represents the commitment of more than 100 volunteer leaders working alongside a team of dedicated professionals. We are presently looking to engage a Planning Lead to join our group.
Planning Leads (planners) have primary responsibility in multiple content areas and related planning committees. These responsibilities include planning in content areas, oversight of initiative development, and implementation. Planners manage multiple grants portfolios, including oversight of Request for Applications (RFA) and proposal screening processes, as well as ongoing involvement with grantees. This position includes representation of the Jewish Life Department and UJA-Federation at conferences and colloquia related to content-area expertise. Planners cultivate and maintain relationships with committee leadership and membership.
Major Responsibilities:
Manages
- Oversees a diverse, extensive portfolio of large and small-scale grants. This includes maintaining regular contact with grantees, reviewing twice yearly reporting and ensuring strategic alignment between grantees and the Jewish Life Department priorities.
- Sources new funding opportunities in alignment with department priorities.
- Responsible for being the expert in relevant Jewish Life and UJA Federation content areas.
- Responsible to be an ambassador for this work, presenting it to internal and/or external audiences, individual donors, etc.
Staffs
- Each Planning Lead staffs two or more committees in a specific content area (such as Immersive Jewish Experiences, ensuring that Jewish life is reflective of the full diversity of the Jewish community and Jewish engagement around issues Jews care about). This responsibility includes working closely with lay leadership to educate them on content and involve them in grant making processes, designing and managing strategic planning processes, managing RFAs and/or special initiative processes, reviewing evaluations, research and ongoing lay educational process.

- UJA building-wide programs and cross-divisional explorations.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Master’s degree in Jewish education, public policy, social work, law, public administration, communal service or related fields preferred.
- 3-5 years related professional experience in a Federation or similar organization preferred.
- 1-3 years related practical experience in the field, such as Jewish camping, teen engagement, Hillel, etc. Preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding and sensitivity in working with diverse Jewish populations in NY, Israel, and globally
- Interest in building a strong, dynamic, and pluralistic NY Jewish community and commitment to empowering all segments of the population.
- Intellectual curiosity and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with collegial diversity.
- Strategic thinker with an ability to articulate goals and design strategic interventions to achieve those goals.
- Adept at working independently and as part of a team.

Salary Information:
The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $90,000; commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.
