The Network Department is one leg of UJA-Federation's planning division, Community Planning and External Relations (CPER). The Network Department focuses its efforts on sustaining and strengthening our interconnected network of partner agencies in the New York metropolitan area. With a special focus on UJA's 60 core partner agencies, the department provides general operating support, offers an array of supports to ensure healthy organizations, and works collaboratively with our closest partners and CPER colleagues to think expansively about how to sustain excellent organizations and meet the ongoing needs of an ever-evolving community.

The Financial Analyst works closely with colleagues in the Network Department of UJA-Federation of New York to monitor and analyze the financial conditions of our core partner agencies The position requires a strong knowledge of budgeting and analyzing financial data of non-profits; the ability to work well with UJA colleagues and staff at our agencies; and an approach to the work that is both broad (applying a sector-wide lens) as well as specific (understanding needs of individual agencies).

Major Responsibilities :

  • Gather, synthesize, and interpret financial information from both internal and external sources including Audited Financial Statements, 990 Filings, agency operating and capital budgets, and data gathered from fieldwork.
  • Create, maintain, and manage financial assessments for a portfolio of agencies, delivering timely information for improved insight and decision-making by UJA-Federation leadership.
  • Maintain working knowledge of UJA- Federation's programs and priority funding areas and remain abreast of current research, activities, and trends in the philanthropic sector.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external agency's financial and executive management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues in the CFO's office.
  • Be an active member of the Network team, participating in various cross-team projects, as needed and as desired.
  • Be an active participant in the development of solutions to issues raised.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and participate in projects as needed. Work closely and collaboratively with Director, Agency Financial Management and other Network Department staff to support various lay committees.
  • Perform other related projects or work as required.

Qualifications and Competencies :

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Superior quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, with a demonstrated ability to conduct thorough and objective analyses of finances and operations and strong attention to detail.
  • Understanding of GAAP accounting principles and the ability to dissect, analyze and interpret financial statements.
  • Strong financial modeling skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and PowerPoint skills; ability to use data to develop charts, pivot tables, and graphs in Excel and construct presentations.
  • Experience actively participating and supporting projects, meetings, and teams in a productive and professional manner. Resourceful self-starter with ability to independently multitask and prioritize, often with time-sensitive and sometimes short deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt and work in a flexible, fluid, and evolving environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written; including the ability to effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Salary Information :

    The salary range for this role is $73,000 to $75,000; commensurate with experience and qualifications listed above.
