Paraprofessional

Under supervision of a site principal and day-to-day work coordination and scheduling of a credentialed teacher or specialized program lead (such as in ASES or other extended day programs), the Paraprofessional assists individuals and/or groups of students in the instructional program in a classroom environment and/or on the playground. Employees in this classification may also be assigned to monitor student behavior in the cafeteria, on the playground, or in the bus area. Located in northern California Wine Country, the Ukiah Unified School District serves approximately 6,000 students, from preschoolers through adults. The district includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, and a comprehensive high school. In addition, our district offers an early education preschool, independent learning opportunities for elementary and high school students, an alternative education high school, and an adult learning center. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent and a passing score on an exam that tests for the knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, the teaching of math, reading, and writing. DESIRED: Some experience working with students, preferably those with disabilities; an A.A or A.S. degree or two years of college (48 semester units), or any combination of training and experience that would indicate possession of the skills and abilities listed on the job description.
