This position is classified as a hybrid role based (3) days a week from our Northbrook, IL, or Downtown Chicago Office.
Want to help make the world a safer, more secure, more sustainable place? We’re seeking a versatile, experienced business writer and trade-media specialist to help us expand our outreach efforts to key business and industry channels.
This talented communicator will have a broad background working with business leaders at all levels to develop strategic, genuinely newsworthy content, and pitching story ideas to industry publications and online/social channels.
The successful candidate will create content for applications ranging from executive presentations and speeches to marketing and social-media copy, video scripts, change-management campaigns, intranet content, employee publications, news releases, briefing documents and more.
Responsibilities:
This role requires a mix of journalistic, corporate and creative storytelling skills, as well as a strong background in media relations.
In the run of an average week, this individual contributor is likely to dedicate time as follows:
- Developing story angles and drafting/pitching stories for targeted trade media that drive measurable reputational benefit. (50%)
- Developing strategic internal and external communications content encompassing everything from town hall meetings, intranet articles, executive leader communications and presentations to speeches, advertising and sponsorship copy, social-media copy, press releases, video scripts and more. (40%)
- Leading communications for key companywide change-management projects and developing creative communications tactics to promote these efforts. (10%)
- Other activities as assigned (10%)
Qualifications:
- BS/BA degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field, plus 5-10 years of related experience.
- Experience developing and pitching compelling stories to trade-media outlets.
- Broad-based experience writing for a variety of executives and other leaders, with demonstrated ability to craft communications spanning a wide range of applications, audiences and executive voices.
- Extensive experience translating complex ideas and technological/scientific concepts into simple, compelling communications, as well as cultivating productive and trusting relationships with senior leaders.
- Experience working in global communications for a complex, matrixed organization across regions is preferred.
- Experience managing and using a wide array of communications tools and channels.
- Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
