Job Description

The data engineer is a critical role in growing the data maturity of the lab organization at UL Solutions. The candidate will be a part of a multidisciplinary team of software developers, data scientists, and architects working toward developing data solutions for the lab. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing ETL / ELT pipelines and data warehousing. Sources may come from disparate data types including legacy databases and documents using popular open-source software. In this role, you will collaborate closely with product, technology teams, and management to design and validate the capabilities of the data platform. This position requires a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement in data processing and orchestration.

Responsibilities

As a data engineer, you will be a part of a multidisciplinary team of software developers, data scientists, and architects working toward developing data solutions for the lab.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing ETL / ELT pipelines and data warehousing. Sources may come from disparate data types including legacy databases and documents
Own the end-to-end ingest and egress frameworks for data pipelines that stitch together various data sources to produce valuable data products that drive the business
Partner with operations, product, and engineering teams to advocate best practices and build data solutions for the various needs
Design and roadmap UL's data maturity

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related field

3 years of experience with common data engineering tools such Airflow, Spark, Snowflake...etc.

3 years experience with creating ETL / ELT pipelines

3 years in Python and SQL

Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams

Read and follow UL Solution's Code of Conduct, and follow all physical and digital security practices

Performs other duties as directed.

Nice-to-Haves

Experience with Azure or AWS, containerization, and associated tooling

Knowledge of data & visualization tools, such as PowerBI

Proficiency working in a Linux environment

Proficiency with version control using Git / Github

Total Rewards : We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge / skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
