The Copy Editor ensures the accuracy, consistency, and grammatical precision of all marketing materials. This role involves partnering with the writing team to create and govern concise, persuasive, and legally appropriate copy that supports the brand and its marketing initiatives. The Copy Editor plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality and integrity of content by proofreading various materials and ensuring polished, professional messaging.

The Copy Editor ensures the accuracy, consistency, and grammatical precision of all marketing materials. This role involves partnering with the writing team to create and govern concise, persuasive, and legally appropriate copy that supports the brand and its marketing initiatives. The Copy Editor plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality and integrity of content by proofreading various materials and ensuring polished, professional messaging.
What You'll Do:
- Proofread and Edit Content: Ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to legal requirements across various marketing communication pieces. Will exercise judgement concerning matters of written marketing content based on grammar, editing and proofing expertise.
- Collaborate with Teams: Partner with copywriters, designers, legal, and compliance teams to produce and evolve brand assets.
- Manage Workflows: Oversee project workflows, compliance-legal content review processes, and coordinate with internal and external partners.
- Create Marketing Communications: Develop promotional emails and other marketing materials.
- Ensure Policy Accuracy: Serve as the go-to resource for advertising and legal policy accuracy within the Marketing team. Will exercise independent judgement and decision making based on compliance and legal content knowledge.
- Develop Marketing Strategies: Communicate a clear point-of-view on the corporate approach to marketing materials.
- Lead Issue Resolution: Address and resolve issues, ensuring deadlines are met in a fast-paced environment.
- Coordinate with External Partners: Work with external agencies and freelancers to facilitate communication and project flow.
- Maintain Brand Voice: Protect and maintain the brand voice as a subject matter expert.
- Stay Informed: Keep up to date on messaging trends and conduct competitive analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Proficient skill level in Microsoft Suite.
- Familiarity working with Project Management tool (Monday.com) and Digital Asset Management tool (Bynder) preferred.
- Stay current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress.
- Lead with courage in support of change initiatives that impact the organization.
- Manage and assist in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA.
- 2 years of experience in strategic communications with excellent proofreading, writing, and editorial skills, including multichannel messaging (print, web, internal, external, etc.).
- Bachelor's Degree in Writing, Journalism, English, or a related field.
- Experience in copy editing and writing in a corporate or agency environment.
- Ability to work on integrated campaigns across multiple channels.
- Minimum 1 years' experience working in a remote environment.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Skype and Microsoft Teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of AP Stylebook standards.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Experience with the healthcare education industry.
- SEO tools and basic SEO knowledge.
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable state laws and rules, federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations and internal policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
