Position Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer , you will play a key role in designing, building, and animating dynamic physical characters, immersive environments, and interactive experiences. This role will support the ride simulation platform, focusing on vehicle design, simulation, and testing to shape future attractions.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop mechanical designs that meet functional requirements.
- Own all phases of the design and fabrication process, including :
Early concept design
Prototyping3D modelingDetailed designProduction drawings for manufacturingAssembly and testingLead internal design reviews and collaborate with external vendors.Interface with Disney fabricators and external machine shops to ensure manufacturability.Test and iterate on proof-of-concept designs, evolving requirements based on findings.Contribute to the culture and community of the WDI R&D Studio.Basic Qualifications :
6 years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.Strong background in mechanical design, particularly in vehicle or automotive design.Experience designing and building complex electromechanical systems.Proficiency in CAD (preferably SolidWorks) for parts, assemblies, and drawings.Hands-on rapid prototyping experience, with the ability to fabricate designs at a prototype level.Knowledge of manufacturing processes (e.g., plating, milling, turning, EDM, grinding).Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to provide clear direction and feedback.Ability to manage multiple assignments in a dynamic R&D environment.Strategic and creative problem-solving skills.Preferred Skills & Experience :
Actuator design, motor selection, and sizing.Materials science and metallurgy expertise.Experience with flexible materials, sheet metal, and weldment design.Complex surface modeling and kinematic motion analysis.Structural FEA and tolerance stack-up analysis.Proficiency with simulation tools such as Houdini and Maya .Experience with Matlab, Simulink, or Python.Industrial design experience that integrates aesthetic form with function.Education Requirements :
Required : BS in Mechanical Engineering.Preferred : MS in Mechanical Engineering.Additional Information :
