Company Overview: The Ultra-Met Company is a manufacturer of tungsten carbide products for use in a wide range of industries such as the Government, automotive, aerospace, medical, petroleum, and woodworking industries. Our products primarily consist of cutting tools and wear products as well as specialty products. The manufacturing process involves the use of powder metals, pressing, forming, sintering, and grinding operations. We are a locally owned, privately held, long-term growth-oriented company.
Summary: This position is responsible for overseeing production in the Government manufacturing department which produces high quantity/low variation parts. This includes mentoring, coaching, counseling, and training employees. This position is responsible for promoting and adhering to a safe environment, production efficiencies, scrap reduction, equipment and labor utilization. Supervisor is responsible for implementing annual plans to achieve target business goals; output, productivity, scrap and yield, lead-time and on-time delivery, safety, quality, operating budget. Use and advocate Lean tools to continuously improve manufacturing performance.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Ensure that production standards are being met and improved where possible.
- Supervise the production are to ensure timely-delivery of high-volume low variation production.
- Implement corrective actions.
- Communicate work schedules and overtime needs to meet production demand.
- Conduct periodic training meetings with both hourly and salaried personnel to maintain and improve departmental efficiencies.
- Ensure that work instructions and procedures are current and observed.
- Oversee thorough and effective tool damage investigations to develop solutions and issue corrective action as required.
- Communicate needs and status of tools and equipment.
- Enforce all company rules and policies, have a working knowledge of the current Union Contract.
- Fill in for absent supervision as required.
- Associate’s degree in technical discipline or equivalent experience preferred
- High Volume/Low Variation production management experience that includes tight tolerances achieved by precision CNC grinding or precision CNC machining
- Experience working and operating in a certified quality system environment such as AS-9100, IATF-16949 or ISO-9001
- Experience in 5S concepts in keeping a work area Clean and Organized through setting expectations with Team Members
- Proficient in reading and understanding basic Geometric Tolerancing designations on product prints
- Experience with operating and interpreting results from precision measuring equipment such as Coordinate Measuring Machines, Optical Comparator, or Optical Non-contact dimensional inspection equipment
- Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance for future projects and assignments.
- Hands on Leader –
- Ability to lead a team of 6-8 people
- Ability to learn, operate, and then train new employees on precision manufacturing CNC equipment after completion of a formal training plan
- Ability to “fill in” where needed due to unexpected shortage of manpower
- Coach and mentor
- Experience in interviewing and selecting new employees to join the Team
- Drive performance improvements in quality and productivity through leadership, collaboration, and organization
- Strong PC skills (Word & Excel) required
- Must be well organized, detail-oriented, and have strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills
