We’re looking for a skilled communications professional to develop and implement proactive communications programs to elevate brand presence of Ultragenyx, its rare disease expertise, marketed therapies and growing pipeline. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications, the Executive Director of Corporate Communications will develop communications strategies and materials to support company milestones and thought leadership initiatives, coordinate across stakeholders to deliver corporate positioning and messaging, and support social and traditional media engagement to build the Ultragenyx brand and reputation. You will partner closely with multiple business groups (Commercial, Government Affairs, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Legal and Regulatory, etc.) and globally dispersed teams to define and implement global communications activities.
Work Model:
Flex: This role will typically require onsite work 2-3 days each week, or more depending on business needs. In many locations, the business will set certain days each week that Flex employees are required to be onsite.
Responsibilities:
- Develop company messaging aligned by stakeholder and channel. Collaborate with senior leaders and functional groups to ensure messaging is consistent and supports the company’s overall goals.
- Design and execute thought leadership strategies to elevate Ultragenyx leaders and the corporate brand, supporting senior leaders with speaking engagements and content development.
- Develop materials to support external-facing general communications and announcements including press releases, blog posts, fact sheets/backgrounders, presentations, Q&As, briefing documents. Partner with internal communications and patient advocacy to ensure alignment and strong coordination for employee and patient community communications.
- Support corporate media strategy; serve as a spokesperson and primary media contact.
- Oversee content strategy and development across channels to raise awareness of the corporate brand.
- Partner with country GMs and regional agencies to develop in-country PR plans and support as necessary.
- Manage external agencies.
Requirements:
- BA/BS degree
- 12 years’ experience, preferably at a public, global biotech company. Rare disease experience a plus.
- Exceptional written, oral, and strategic communication skills, strong analytical skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to distill scientific/medical topics into clear and concise corporate messaging.
- Demonstrated ability to interact across levels of the organization, an ability to work effectively with external vendors, manage and lead projects involving cross-functional teams and excellent interpersonal skills.
