What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Specialist position at UM Upper Chesapeake Health?
JOB SUMMARY: The Education Specialist coordinates and teaches in Hospital and Nursing orientation programs, in-services, continuing education courses, and community programs. The Education Specialist plans for education programs based on the individual needs of team members and the goals of UM/UCH. Acts as a resource/consultant to the team members in meeting education needs and/or patient/family needs. The scope of patient care is primarily ages 18 and above. Education Specialists with documented competencies in the care of neonates through elderly will act as a resource person to the staff. Conducts and/or participates in projects through individual assignment, committee/task force involvement and/or through conducting surveys/needs assessments.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education & Training: Registered Nurse with current RN licensure in the State of Maryland with a Baccalaureate degree (Nursing focused). A Masters Degree in Nursing or an M.S. in Education or Human Resources preferred. Certification in a specialty area desired. BCLS Instructor Certification required. ACLS, NRP, and/or PALS Instructor Certification is required within one year of hire.
Work Orientation & Experience: A minimum of three years experience in medical-surgical and/or clinical area of expertise. A minimum of one-year experience in applying the principles of adult education in teaching. Orientation is based on current knowledge level and may take up to 8 weeks of orientation to gain specific requirements to perform essential job functions and obtain confidence in teaching established and/or new programs.

Ability to organize and prioritize effectively in a manner that facilitates completion of assignments and responsibilities within prescribed time frames.
