About the EVP Position
The Executive Vice Provost (EVP) plays a critical role in supporting and advising the provost on academic affairs. This involves collaborating with senior leaders to align activities and resources towards strategic goals.
The EVP will leverage directions outlined in UMass Amherst's new strategic plan, For the Common Good: 2024-2034, to create a cohesive academic leadership group focused on inclusive excellence, distinction, and impact in teaching, research, and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to promote faculty appointment, promotion, tenure, and/or retention.
- Coordinate strategic initiatives across various units and offices.
- Assist the provost in developing and implementing academic priorities, plans, and policies.
- Serve as the provost's representative on relevant councils and committees.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, the EVP candidate must have:
- An accomplished scholarly record with experience leading grants and administrative roles at a research university.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in department chair, assistant dean, or associate dean positions.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relational skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
