Photographer, Biomedical Job at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester

We are seeking a technically oriented individual to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our light microscopy imaging core facility on a part-time basis. Current instruments include an OMX V4 super-resolution microscope, Nikon A1 confocal microscope, custom-built multiphoton microscope, an Olympus TIRF system, and a number of semi-automated bright field microscopes.

Responsibilities include :

• Training new users and qualifying them to operate instruments independently.
• Performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting problems reported by users, and performing repairs where possible (e.g., laser module replacement).
• Scheduling service / repairs with manufacturers as required.
• Maintaining the department digital imaging facility and assisting / instructing faculty, staff, and students in using it.
• Using practical knowledge of digital imaging techniques, networked imaging devices, and traditional photographic methods.
• Preparing publication quality black and white and color prints for grant applications, original posters, scientific meetings, and publications in scientific journals.
• Preparing black and white and color slides and photographs from various sources (e.g., light and electron micrographs, radiographs, gels).
• Improving current procedures, developing new techniques, and evaluating data.
• Assisting department members in preparing electronic presentations.
• Acting as a department resource on imaging issues.
• Staying current with the latest technological developments in the imaging field through research and attendance at meetings and seminars.
• Managing equipment and supplies in the imaging facility and instructing faculty, staff, and students in proper use.
• Maintaining records of imaging costs and producing quarterly billing statements.
• Performing other duties as required.
