Job Goal :
The Coach Mentor is assigned to Head Start and Early Head Start Education and Home Based Staff to observe, model, coach, and mentor on a regular basis; providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and principles. The Coach Mentor meets and provides feedback for facilitated discussion on common problems teachers and home visitors are facing in order to design appropriate intervention strategies. The Coach Mentor supports the agency developed School Readiness Framework and works with Head Start and Early Head Start Education and Home Based staff to support them in effectively developing their learning environment using curriculum and planning educational experiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Assist in the mentoring and training of education staff to support school readiness measures and program quality.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers improving teacher child interactions and curriculum implementation that supports positive child outcomes towards school readiness.
- Provide technical support and assistance to classroom teachers as assigned, including direct coaching and mentoring of education staff to improve instructional practices and classroom quality.
- Provide regular classroom observations using the specified evidence based tools such as CLASS, Creative Curriculum Fidelity Tool, etc.
- Assist with the planning and monitoring of education component services.
- Provide reflective coaching and mentoring to the teachers to ensure the implementation of the education program reflects the UMHS philosophy and curriculum; promote and support the professional development of the education staff.
- Ensure teacher child interactions and instruction are responsive, intentional, and developmentally appropriate to ensure children are provided socially supportive, organized, and meaningful interactions that support their development (i.e., social emotional, physical, cognitive, and language) and learning (i.e., literacy, math, science, technology, social studies, and the arts).
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring and support to classroom staff around the Conscious Discipline and the Pyramid model.
- Participate in the development of program policies, service delivery plans, and ongoing monitoring of program quality.
- Ensure all mandates of Head Start Performance Standards, and state and local licensing are met.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and other necessary trainings to support component goals
- Stay current on research based practices according to Head Start, Oregon’s Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines, and best practice guidance / recommendations as identified through NHSA, NAEYC, The Research Institute, and the Department of Early Learning and Care.
- Develop workshops on best practices in Early Childhood Care and Education and submitting to ORO for approval.
- Assist in Staff Development by identifying priority areas of education instruction. Assist the Content Directors in planning and delivering training.
Act as a resource to program staff needing additional resources and supports.
Stay current with research based (PBC) coaching practices to align with Head Start recommendations
General Staff Responsibilities :
Monday - Friday, 8am - 4 : 30pm
40 Hours per week
