Job Description:
The Patient Accounts Manager is responsible for the management of government and non-government billing, collections, cash processing, and accounts receivable functions, as well as external vendor and managed care contract administration. Manages daily operations to ensure efficient and effective collections that will foster timely and accurate production of bills and collections of patient accounts receivable with minimum effort and expense to the institution. Provides Quality Improvement monitoring to ensure employee compliance with departmental standards and procedures. Identifies problems with processes and seeks to implement solutions.
Required Skills:
1. Working knowledge of the principles and fundamentals, relating to budgeting, accounting, record keeping and business writing. Effective written and verbal communication skills required.
2. Analytical and problem-solving skills required.
3. Proficiency in computer software programs and use of basic office equipment required.
4. Must be able to demonstrate understanding of and ability to interpret third party payor principles and terms. Must be proficient in determining applicants eligible for Charity Assistance according to Hospital District Charity/Indigent Care guidelines.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
6. Knowledge of general administrative procedures that apply to functions, such as personnel, payroll and purchasing.
7. Ability to exercise independent judgment in unusual or stressful situations.
8. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
9. Demonstrated leadership in establishing and achieving goals.
Required Experience:
Work Experience:
Five years patient accounting management experience required.
License/Registration/Certification:
Certification as a Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM) by the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management or certification as a Certified Financial Healthcare Professional (CFHP) by the Healthcare Financial Management Association, preferred.
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, or Healthcare required.
