Job Title: Lawn Caretaker
Job Purpose
The Community Lawn Caretaker is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the appearance and health of community lawns and green spaces. This role involves performing a variety of lawn care tasks, including mowing, watering, fertilizing, and weed control. The Community Lawn Caretaker ensures that community lawns are well-maintained, aesthetically pleasing, and safe for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Job Duties
- Perform regular lawn maintenance tasks, including mowing, edging, and trimming to keep community lawns well-manicured and visually appealing.
- Monitor soil moisture levels and water lawns as needed. Operate and maintain irrigation systems, adjusting watering schedules based on weather conditions and water conservation guidelines.
- Apply fertilizers and other lawn care products to promote healthy grass growth and control weeds. Follow proper application techniques and safety guidelines.
- Maintain landscape beds, including pulling out weeds, and pruning shrubs and trees.
- Operate and maintain lawn care equipment, such as lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, and sprayers. Perform regular maintenance, cleaning, and repairs on equipment to ensure their safe and efficient operation.
- The position includes all other responsibilities that may be necessary to fulfill the duties associated with the position or as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in lawn care, groundskeeping, or landscaping.
- Knowledge of and ability to use and maintain mowing and landscaping equipment.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to provide the UMH standard of service.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently to complete job duties.
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Willingness to attend periodic training on procedures and laws as they pertain to the job duties.
Physical requirements of the job
- Stand for much of the workday.
- Frequently lift objects over 20 pounds during the workday.
- Occasionally kneel and crawl
- Use of power tools and hand tools
- Use of heavy equipment and moving heavy equipment
Work Environment
- This job is performed outdoors and involves exposure to elements of nature such as varying climates and weather conditions, uneven terrain, insects, animals, etc.
Travel
- Occasional car travel may be required to handle work-related errands outside of the community.
Work Schedule
- Full-time schedule is typically Monday through Friday with base hours of approximately 40 hours per week.
- For full-time employees: Overtime work is required and may be assigned on a regular basis or on a rotating schedule dependent upon community staffing and community needs.
- For full-time employees: Overtime work may be required on weekends and holidays.
- Seasonal and part-time schedules will vary based upon length of season geographically as well as specific community needs.
- In-person attendance is an essential function of this position.
Job Classification
- This is a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Non-exempt employees will be eligible for overtime pay in weeks where total hours worked exceed forty hours.
