About UMOM New Day Centers: Founded in 1964, UMOM is Arizona's largest provider of services for families experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to end family homelessness by restoring hope and rebuilding lives. With an annual operating budget of $20 million dollars, UMOM provides shelter, supportive services, and housing programs to families and individuals experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. UMOM serves over 15,000 unique individuals across all our services annually, including those families receiving support at the Family Housing Hub, Maricopa County's family coordinated entry system.
Position Description: The Helpings Café and Catering Coordinator provides leadership, technical skill, and day-to-day management in the organization's goal of using social enterprise to change lives. Helpings Café and Catering is a Social Enterprise business of UMOM New Day Centers which provides hand-crafted menu items and job training in support of UMOM's mission. The Catering Coordinator is a working Chef, responsible for the daily operations and execution of the Helpings Café Catering program. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the back-of-house Café staff and collaborating with the Helpings Café FOH team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Creating menu drafts and proposals for review and approval of the Helpings Café Manager.
- Production of Catering & Café orders.
- Inventory and ordering catering needs & supplies.
- Set up, delivery, breakdown of special events & catering.
- Coach, develop and manage BOH employees.
- Provide training & guidance to the Homegrown Program students.
- Maintain a clean, sanitary environment abiding by State and County Health Codes.
- Deliver outstanding customer service.
- Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor, leadership, and/or Executives.
Qualification and Competency Requirements:
Education and Experience
- Associate degree or certificate from culinary program preferred
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Experience working as a Chef for a minimum of five years in a fast-paced food service environment; café and/or barista experience preferred.
- Experience with hospitality operations management, specifically product and equipment procurement and budget management preferred.
- Experience in kitchen training and/or instructing preferred.
Computer skills
- Familiarity with basic applications such as Microsoft Word and Outlook for email communication and documentation
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn basic POS system & credit card processing.
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn online supply ordering systems such as Sysco, Shamrock, Etc.
Compliance
- ServSafe Manager Certification or the ability to obtain one
- Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card or the ability to obtain one
- Ability to clear the Central Registry Screening from the Department of Child Safety & Adult Protective Services.
- Ability to comply with and pass all required background check and drug screening requirements, including but not limited to pre-employment and random drug screening as required/requested.
- Valid AZ Driver's License and a driving record that falls within UMOM's policy
- 50/100 level of car insurance coverage
- This position is classified as a safety sensitive position.

Work Schedule: This position must have flexibility to workdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. This full-time position typically works 5 days each week (40 hours) with two consecutive days off. Shifts typically fall between the hours of 5am and 7pm and may require additional availability depending on catering event needs.
