Job Description

Through a multi-year agreement between the Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and UN Women, the Entity’s footprint in Seoul was established in 2022. To date, and under the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the work has focused on supporting traditional and non-traditional stakeholders in the Asia and The Pacific region in realizing commitments to gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the rights of women and girls through (i) gender capacity-building training programmes, (ii) research and support for production and use of gender data, and (iii) network building, partnership cultivation to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in the region.

In 2024, UN Women and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MOGEF) expanded the UN Women footprint to not only focus on the above, but within this to also significantly increase attention to the care economy and its crucial role in ensuring women’s empowerment in the face of the region’s shifting demographics; and towards a heightened investment in increased knowledge and partnerships to end tech-facilitated violence against women and girls. Further, under the UN Women Regional Office, the UN Women Centre of Knowledge and Partnerships in RoK (the Centre) will focus on mobilizing RoK-based public and private sector partners to advance global implementation of gender equality and women’s empowerment under the SDGs, the Beijing Platform for Action, and the UN Pact for the Future.

The Partnerships and Coordination Specialist Consultant will play a primary liaison role between the personnel at the Centre, UN Women ROAP, UN Women HQ, and MOGEF. This includes planning, and coordinating the next phase of relevant documents such as the memorandum of understanding (MoU) and the Project Document, from internal and external consultations, review and clearance from drafting to finalization for the Centre; developing key meeting reports and briefs to better document discussions and outputs of Centre activities; as well as coordinating proposals, donor visibility, communications and reporting for other UN Women MOGEF-funded projects from the Asia Pacific region.

The Partnerships and Coordination Specialist Consultant will report to UN Women Regional Office Asia and the Pacific’s Head of External Relations and be responsible for supporting the Centre in the Republic of Korea in the next phase of planning, reporting and coordination to ensure alignment with both the new footprint and the new Strategic Plan and Regional Office’s Strategic Note and sustain support for the Centre’s operations. The Partnerships and Administrative Assistant will be focal point on the contract and payment issues. The consultant has no team members reporting to them.

Description Of Responsibilities /Scope Of Work

  • Prioritizes Project Document coordination (consultation, facilitation of diverse inputs, writing, negotiation and securing approvals);
  • Facilitate proposal coordination for MOGEF funding opportunities and coordinating documentation of communications, visibility, reporting requirements;
  • Drafting summaries of key meetings and other convenings as required.
  • Provide technical advice and support on all aspects of the Project Document development cycle, serving as regional working level focal point for MOGEF as and when required.
  • Provide support to the Centre for preparation of various policy-oriented knowledge products based on key discussion points and background documents of the Centre’s key activities. This will include preparing the Centre’s Korean summaries for MOGEF.


Consultant’s Workplace and Official Travel

This is a home-based consultancy. The consultant is expected to be available during Seoul working hours for online meetings as required.

Functional Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of the Government of the Republic of Korea’s policy and ODA priorities

Required Qualifications

Education and Certification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in business management, social sciences, public administration, international relations, communications, or a related field is required
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree


Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in project development and management, donor relations, proposal development or resource mobilization
  • Proven experience managing diverse stakeholders, particularly donors
  • Experience writing Project Documents for UN Women is an asset
  • Experience with negotiations within an international organization is highly desirable
  • Good command of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment is desirable;
  • Experience working in UN Women or another UN organization is highly desirable
  • Experience working in or with developing countries is an advantage


Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Korean is required.
