What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 ELEM/MS Summer School Teacher Assistant position at Unassigned?
NOTE: This position requires two things:
1. A Missouri Substitute Certificate, which can be obtained by completing an application through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at www.dese.mo.gov.
2. Either 36 college credit hours or 20 hours of online instruction through Frontline AND a high school diploma. More information can be found at www.dese.mo.gov.
Dates: June 2, 2025 - June 30, 2025 *No School June 19

Grades K-5 - Early Start
Hawthorn, Hopewell (with Chinn), Prairie Point (with English Landing), Renner (with Line Creek), and Tiffany Ridge
Summer School Program Hours:
8:15 am - 3:15 pm
Work Hours:
8:00 am – 3:30 pm (7.5 hours per day)
Grades K-5 - Traditional Start
Graden (with Southeast) and Union Chapel (with Angeline Washington)
Summer School Program Hours:
9:15 am - 4:15 pm
Work Hours:
9:00 am – 4:30 pm (7.5 hours per day)
Grades 6-8
Plaza Middle School (with Congress)
Walden Middle School (with Lakeview)
Summer School Program Hours:
7:15 am – 2:15 pm
Work Hours:
7:00 am – 2:30 pm (7.5 hours per day)
Location and schedule to be determined based upon Summer School Enrollment.
$17.10 per hour. Support staff working in the same position for summer school will receive their current hourly rate of pay. Minimum pay rates are noted below.

REPORTS TO: Classroom Teacher or Summer School Administrator
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teacher assistants serve to enhance the instructional program available in the schools. They are employed to provide better learning opportunities for students in situations where large class sizes or a special need exists. The assistant aids the teacher in providing instruction and also performs duties which free the teacher to work with those students needing more help. Many of the duties performed by the assistant are similar to those performed by the teacher. However, the assistant works under the direction of the teacher, and only the teacher may diagnose and prescribe for the learning needs of the students. All plans for a lesson originate through the classroom teacher.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Tutor individuals or small groups.
- Escort class to other instructional areas.
- Operate instructional equipment for the classroom.
- Assist students with mobility needs. (May involve lifting, toileting, etc.)
- Gather and produce instructional material for use in the classroom.
- Assist with appropriate behavioral intervention techniques as directed by the supervising teacher.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding students' and family’s academic and social needs.
- Assist the teacher in planning for daily lessons and activities.
- Aid in the administering of tests relating to curriculum.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with field trips and class supervision.
- Help with seat work or individual student work.
- Assist with preparation of bulletin boards, learning centers, etc.
- Arrange instructional material for the classroom.
- Attend meetings/trainings as requested.
