Primary Purpose of Position
The Assistant Dean of Finance and Personnel provides leadership for all business, financial, and personnel activities of the Belk College of Business. The Assistant Dean has overall accountability for planning and directing the strategic and long-range financial goals of the College. As a direct report of the Dean, this position develops key processes in the College and is responsible for the reporting of all financial information to both internal and external stakeholders. The Assistant Dean serves as the College’s primary liaison with Academic Affairs, Business Affairs, Human Resources, Advancement, Internal Audit, and Research & Economic Development. The position serves as an expert resource on College and University financial policies and provides consultation for College personnel issues.

The Assistant Dean serves as a resource on personnel policies and procedures for supervisors within the College. This role directly supervises five full-time staff positions on the College’s Finance and Personnel Team. Planning, directing, and coordinating the efforts of the Finance and Personnel team is an essential part of this position.

Summary of Position Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean of Finance and Personnel provides leadership for all business, financial, and personnel activities of the Belk College of Business.
Specific duties include:

- Oversight for the College’s operating budget totaling more than $28 million annually.
- Accountability for Belk College’s financial management, including long-range planning to achieve strategic financial goals.
- Oversight of the College’s overall personnel management, including serving as a subject matter expert in the areas of recruitment and position management for 150 permanent faculty and staff positions.
- College-level oversight for an endowment totaling more than $65 million.
- Development of College processes and policies that support sound financial processes and consistent and equitable personnel management
- Management of the College’s Finance and Personnel Team, which consists of four permanent full-time staff positions that report directly to the Assistant Dean.
Minimum Education/Experience
- Master’s degree or
- Bachelors with equivalent experience and
- Five years of experience in financial and personnel management.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related area from an AACSB-accredited program
- Experience with financial and personnel management in higher education
- Experience with faculty position management
- Extensive knowledge of North Carolina and UNC System Office policies and procedures relevant to this position
- Prior experience in a supervisory role
- Prior experience working with executive-level management
