Description of Work
Assist the Dean in the oversight of various duties, which may include but aren’t limited to, advancing research missions, supporting the undergraduate and graduate degree programs, faculty evaluation, faculty development, facilitate external support for undergraduate and graduate programs, curriculum development, course schedule planning, faculty/staff hiring and supervision, budget development, fiscal monitoring, and other related administrative activities with and for the assigned program areas. Reports directly to the Dean and may assume some duties of the Dean in their absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Dean for Graduate Programs (ADGP) is a tenured, 11-month, administrative position in the Belk College of Business, which oversees the Graduate Programs professional staff. The Executive Director of Graduate Programs also reports to the ADGP. The College has approximately 110 full-time faculty, 5,200 students, 45 part-time/adjunct instructors, and 50 staff.
The ADGP reports to the Sr. Associate Dean and is an integral member of the Belk College senior leadership team. The ADGP works closely with the Graduate School, Department Chairs, graduate program directors, graduate programs staff, and Belk College faculty and staff to develop and enhance graduate education, fostering programs that reflect the vision and mission of the Belk College. The ADGP’s responsibilities include leading the long-term strategic planning efforts for graduate programs, engaging in program and curriculum development, managing graduate program operations, and advising the Sr. Associate Dean and Dean regarding best practices in graduate education. The ADGP provides oversight for the graduate education programs budget, marketing, recruitment, admissions, advising, program development, AACSB/SACS accreditation of graduate programs, graduate student career and professional development, and graduate education staff supervision. All domestic and global graduate programs offered by the Belk College fall within the scope of the ADGP’s responsibilities.
The ADGP oversees the day-to-day operations of graduate programs, coordinating the work of the professional staff, Program Directors, various committees, and the faculty in general; communicates with other colleges and administrators on campus; upholds a culture of high ethical standards and professional respect within the College and while performing duties; strategically plans with the Dean and External Relations team how to market the College and enhance external communications; ensures compliance with assessment and accreditation needs; represents the College on University leadership committees; and coordinates special projects as assigned by the Sr. Associate Dean or Dean.

Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
The Associate Dean for Graduate Programs is an 11-month, tenured position reporting directly to the Belk College Sr. Associate Dean. This administrator position holds a rank of Professor. Duties also include no teaching responsibilities except at the discretion of the Sr. Associate Dean. The ADGP must possess a terminal degree in business (PhD preferred), have professional and/or business administration discipline experience (minimum of three years combined), and have evidence of excellence in administration, teaching and research.
