Primary Purpose of Position
This position serves as a FM Building Trades Technician with responsibility for performing
general maintenance tasks such as: building envelope reseal, repair, placement, fabrication,
installation, alteration, construction and design of facility components within assigned
buildings at a contributing level.

Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide career tracks in trades such as caulking, coating, masonry, painting, plastering, and roofing, which encompass tasks ranging from routine and unskilled to highly skilled.
- Apply methods and general procedures of relevant trades and maintenance techniques, while developing proficiency in procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment appropriate to the trade.
- Perform tasks including maintenance, repair, replacement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components. These tasks require skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and adherence to safety policies and regulations.
- Serve as a helper to advanced and journey-level technicians, assisting them in daily job duties and gaining hands-on experience.
- Work outdoors, often in elevated conditions. Applicants must be comfortable with heights.
- Assist advanced and journey-level technicians with tasks performed from lifts, while learning to operate the lifts as part of the job responsibilities.
- Ability to obtain a drone license as part of the position requirements to assist advanced and journey-level technicians with building and roof inspections
Other Work Responsibilities
- Position is considered to be fully functioning in construction.
- This position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at the journey level.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Ability to follow applicable building codes.
- Ability to effectively communicate.
- Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communications.
- Computer literate.
- Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
- Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with co-workers, visitors, building occupants, and the entire campus community.
- Selected candidate must have capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- This position must be willing to learn how to fly a drone and receive there 107 drone lichens.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
- Valid driver’s license required. The FM Tech Building Trades operates assigned vehicles on and/or off-campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
- Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
