Primary Purpose of Position
The Information Security Operations Manager is an essential leadership position that assists with executing the overall strategic plan in accordance with the Information Security Program (ISP), including the portfolio of university-wide security services, software and hardware used to accomplish the mission. This position routinely engages with leaders across the University to provide consultation services, socialize security initiatives, gather feedback, and address weaknesses in defenses.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
- Manage and lead security personnel.
- Monitor security systems and networks for suspicious activity.
- Conduct risk assessments and identify vulnerabilities.
- Respond to and manage security incidents and emergencies.
- Develop and implement security policies and procedures.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to other team members.
Minimum Education/Experience
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in computer science, computer engineering or an information security degree, or other closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or bachelor’s degree plus eight-years of experience in IT security or closely related area, or an equivalent combination of education and related leadership and supervisory experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience in a higher education environment
- Formal education or professional experience in information assurance and/or information security management.
- Strong communication skills including experience delivering professional presentations to directors and other high-level staff.
- Experience identifying key performance indicators to quantitatively assess the performance of a security program and to characterize an organization’s security posture.
- Understanding of how to utilize automation tools to increase the productivity and responsiveness of a SOC.
- Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented work environment.
- Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks in rapid succession.
- Experience with Cisco security tools
- One or more information security certifications such as GCIH, CISSP, CISA, CRISC and CISM are preferable, but not required.
