What are the responsibilities and job description for the urbanCORE Fellow for Student Engagement position at UNC Charlotte?
UrbanCORE is the hub of UNC Charlotte’s engaged scholarship ecosystem. (CORE is an acronym for Community-Oriented Research and Engagement.)
It mobilizes, assesses and advances efforts that connect the University’s interdisciplinary, urban research resources to community assets in order to “co-produce transformative solutions to societal issues and challenges.”
Primary Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Director of Engaged Scholarship, the urbanCORE Fellow is responsible for supporting and enhancing student community engagement across campus, including coordinating and managing student community-based learning initiatives like the new Charlotte Impact.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
Key responsibilities:
- Partner with relevant student organizations and academic programs to recruit and onboard convene students in the Charlotte Impact
- Refine educational content and assess student learning
- Consult with community partners about expectations and student progress for community-based learning for process improvement
- Connect civic learning and democratic engagement with community engagement activities, including the work of the 49er Democracy Experience
- Survey scholarly and industry literature to identify current trends and best practices in Critical Service Learning and civic engagement
- Analyze civic identity competencies and student success outcomes for students participating in community engagement activities
Key deliverables:
- Develop end-of-year reports
- Communicate program successes and activities via social media/website
- Prepare papers for scholarly publication and for internal improvement
Minimum Education/Experience
- Masters degree OR
- Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of experience in student development, community engagement, and/or civic learning in a higher education context
- Experience managing student programs or convening student leaders
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Masters degree or higher
- Experience with program assessment, survey development, and continuous improvement
- Knowledge of communication and social media strategies for connecting with college students
- Experience with program coordination/project management
- Experience with student development programming from recruitment to facilit
